How to wear ankle boots

If you don’t feel like reading about how to wear ankle boots, but want a few quick tips, check out my video on Instagram and Facebook.

Ankle boots are once again the boot of the season. I don’t think I’ve even seen a knee-length boot in the likes of Country Road and Witchery this winter. Personally I’ve worn my knee-length ones only twice the entire season so far. I’m a total convert to the ankle boot.

If you struggle with knee-length boots because you’re short i.e. the boots come onto your knee instead of just underneath it, I really suggest you just opt for ankle boots, they are the more flattering option anyway as they elongate your leg, more than a knee-length boot. A lot of my clients have ‘big’ calves, actually they aren’t that big but for some reason most shops cater for run-way-model-type figures and if you don’t fit within those parameters it makes shopping tricky. Again, stop trying to squeeze into knee-length boots that just aren’t comfy and also make you feel like your calves are gargantuan. Just go for ankle boots!

So, if you want to buy yourself a pair, but you’re not quite sure how to wear them, keep reading.

Firstly, decide if your first foray into this style of boot is going to be a heel or a flat, or somewhere in-between. I think the in-between heel is a good place to start as a small heel is always more flattering than no heel, and also more wear-able than a killer heel.

In terms of how to wear your ankle boots, the most important thing is that you need to show the boot i.e. your jeans either need to sit inside the ankle boot, or just on top of it. Or you can cuff them which I love…Leggings or tights will naturally also need to sit inside the boot.

If you’re buying your first pair I’d suggest going for a neutral colour i.e. probably brown or black.

You need to own a pair of skinnies and/or straight leg jeans. You absolutely CANNOT wear ankle boots with bootleg or wide-leg jeans!

Here’s some inspo for you…hope this has helped. And if you’ve missed the boat this season, considering we’re on our way out of winter, you know what to do next year!

I highly recommend you get yourself a pair, you won’t look back.
