I recently went to a mall to look for clothes for my kids and it was a horrible experience, everyone hidden behind their masks, queues of people staring ahead  waiting to get into pick n pay. The mood was sombre and I left feeling depressed to be honest! I’m not going shopping again, it’s online or nothing for me…

So, in light of that, I’ve partnered with some great local brands to help you with your wardrobe. I’ve chosen my favourite pieces from their winter range, and am sharing a bunch of information on each piece from now until the end of May. From showing you how to style it, to explaining what type of body shape it will and won’t suit, and more…A lot of the pieces are trans-seasonal so you’ll be able to wear them in the warmer months.

Imagine being able to see what something ACTUALLY looks like on a real person, when you shop online..

I’m that real person!

Another reason for doing what I’m doing now is to connect these local brands to you guys, the consumers. Lockdown has been rough on small businesses and they need all the support they can get, to be able to continue producing garments, thereby employing local people and providing incomes to their respective families!

You might be saying – what’s the point of shopping when I’m staying home every day and not seeing anyone, and I get that to a certain extent, but with lockdown becoming the new normal, I am wearing more and more every-day clothes. I’m tired of wearing active wear all day. I like to feel good. Wearing a pretty dress rather than my scaffy house dress does actually make a difference to how I feel…

SO, if this resonates with you – follow me on Instagram and Facebook and make sure you turn on notifications so that you don’t miss out on any of the styles I share 😉 Promos run until May 31 x

Following on from my Instagram post the other day on how and where to tie your waistbands when wearing a dress, I thought I’d break it down for you a little more.

If you have no waist whatsoever, you’re probably best off ditching the belt entirely. But that doesn’t always have to be the case. If you want to give a tunic/sack style dress more shape and there’s enough fabric and drape in the dress, you can either belt at the hips and pull the dress up and over the belt a little, to give that ‘blouse-on’ effect. OR you can belt it under the bust above the belly button (this can be tricky to get right though). What you don’t want to do is belt it into your belly button as this will enhance your straight torso.

If you are the opposite figure shape to what I described above, i.e. you have a small waist and bigger hips and legs, belting at the empire line under the bust is a great option but belting at your hips won’t be, this will create the illusion of wider hips which you don’t want if you’re already doing fine in that department!

Where to wear your belt is all about proportions i.e. the higher you wear your belt, the longer your legs look. If you’re a typical hourglass shape, (think Nigella Lawson) belting at the waist, the more you cinch it in, the smaller your waist will look!

I am never a fan of tying the bow of your belt at your back – it is a bit Bo Peep-ish and little girl-ish, I always prefer to bring the tie round to the front and tie it just off centre i.e. to the right or left of your belly button area. You can either tie a bow and make a feature of the tie, or tie a knot and have a less obvious feature.

Final tip – when dresses have belts with existing belt loops, remember that you can almost always cut the belt loops off, and belt the dress where it suits you best, or just leave it off if you prefer.

I hope those tips helped you! Shout if you have any questions.

x Pippa

Win a BENA shorts set… size and style of your choice! I have 2 pairs of their long sets and they are just divine.

There’s honestly nothing better than slipping into a pair of these pj’s after a hot shower, especially if you’ve taken a little more time with your night time bath routine. Maybe you’ve treated yourself to a bath soak, or you’ve done an exfoliation or some other thing to up the luxe vibes of your evening cleansing – the last thing you want to do after that is get into your scaffy faded old pj’s! I treated myself to my first pair after my 2nd child was born, I was feeling so meh and there’s just so much groundhog day stuff when a 2nd baby arrives, I wanted to feel ‘treated’ so I bought myself a pair of pj’s from Bena and it was just the best thing!

You have a slightly dressy occasion and you’re like yiiiiiiikes wtf am I going to wear??? Guys, if you have a jumpsuit as part of your wardrobe armour you will save yourself those wtf moments time and time again. A jumpsuit can be dressed up or down so easily, I’m not talking black-tie dress up (although you could probably find one that would be smart enough), I’m referring to that semi-formal lunch you need to attend, or that early evening drinks party where the dress code is something obscure like ‘bring your glam factor’. A jumpsuit is such a great go-to item to have, for any occasion. I have a few jumpsuits in my wardrobe and, due to the fact that I seldom have anywhere ‘dressy’ to go to, I mostly wear them casually for my day-to-day running around, seeing clients and fetching kids activities. The thing with a jumpsuit is you can transform it from casual to smart via your shoes and accessories. Sandals and sneakers for a casual look, and heels or pointy flats with some bling earrings and a blazer or leather jacket for a smarter occasion.

Check out my video on Facebook and Instagram to get some ideas on how to style my recent leopard addition, and see two more styles below. For all of the styles I’m featuring on Instagram and Facebook, as well as in this post, you can get a discount on the retail price by using the following codes:

For Sitting Pretty use code PIPPAJ10 at checkout and get 10% off.

For GOOD use code PIPPAJ and you will get 15% off.

Both brands give you free delivery on these jumpsuits. Promo ends midnight Sunday 26 January 2020.

Here’s me in the Sitting Pretty version…I absolutely love this jumpsuit, it is so simple, classic and stylish. Something you will never tire of wearing. The fabric is so soft making it a dream to wear. I had this in black at my pop up and it was a hot favourite.

And then the leopard options from GOOD are on the profesh model below…you can see a normal person aka me, wearing it in my Insta and Facebook video.

The full length pic of the above leopard jumpsuit is in a different print, which is actually the print I had at my pop up but it has since sold out. It is the MOST flattering style for SO many different body shapes. It works on ‘hourglass’ and ‘pear’ ladies, as well as the complete opposite ‘apple’ or ‘brick’ shape i.e. no waist and bigger torso/shoulders than hips. Here it is in the other print so that you can see the full length.

So many women who tried this style at my pop up, (on my insistence) were like “I never thought I could wear a jumpsuit” and they looked so awesome in this style that they bought it, so I can highly recommend it.

The other option which would be amazing on curvy/pear/hourglass girls is this one from GOOD.  (as per my video)

I love this style as it’s so damn comfy and the wide leg pants are so flattering.

So like I said earlier, a jumpsuit is such a great go-to item to own in your wardrobe. It’s more edgy and interesting than a dress, but it’s as simple and easy to wear, in that it’s one stand alone item to put on and your outfit is done!

If you do decide to treat yourself to either of these jumpsuits, please share a photo of yourself wearing it, I’d love to see how you’ve styled it, be brave and tag me! 😉

NOTE* the blue leopard shows as sold out in a lot of sizes online, however there is stock in their various stores so they will most likely be able to fulfill your order – please email the brand to let them know your size if you don’t come right online!

School’s out! Even if you don’t have kids in school, you’ll feel the shift in energy wherever you are, even something as basic as there being less traffic on the road is freakin awesome!

I’ve done a bunch of shopping for clients over the past few weeks and they’ve all loved generating some easy holiday outfits. So here are 5 quick tips for holiday looks from me, obvs I could give you 25, but let’s keep it simple 🙂

Lunch time family get-together:

You can’t go wrong with that favourite summer dress. Cool, comfy and easy to wear. What’s not to love about that? A summer dress is SUCH a great option as all you have to do is throw it on, you don’t need to worry about what to pair it with. I featured another style of dress in one of my Instagram videos, if you’d like to check that out.

Braai at your mates..

Cropped jeans + tee + espadrilles is an easy go-to look. Everyone takes a pair of jeans on holiday right? And cropped denims are the best for summer. Jeans paired with a basic tee – enough said. Espadrilles are the summer shoe of the moment, it’s so worth getting yourself a version of these as they’ll always be a summer classic despite being on trend currently.

 Sundowners with friends..

Add a bit of glam factor with a kimono. Worn over said jeans and tee, a kimono adds game to your overall look. You can basically throw a kimono on over anything, shorts + tee, jumpsuit, dress…Check out my video on that one too, if you’d like to.

Everyday relaxing…

Calls for relaxed pants – yes please. And with an elasticated waist, even better *side note – there are elasticated pants and there are elasticated pants, please don’t buy the woolies 3/4 parachute fabric options! Wide legs are the pants of the season, but you can also opt for the jogger style in a lightweight rayon/linen or viscose if wide leg isn’t your thing. Dress them up with a blouse tucked in and metallic sandals, or just straight chill in them with sneakers and a t-shirt 😉

Accessorising for all of the above looks.

A straw or woven bag is so lovely as it’s just that much more casual than leather. There are a BUNCH of these in the shops at the moment, every major retailer has one for you to choose from so you’ll definitely find one that works for you.

I hope these give you some inspiration for your upcoming holiday. I’m all about being comfy, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to look good too right? Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for more every day style and outfit tips.

“I want to create a capsule wardrobe where everything mixes and matches, how do I do that”?

“What things should I have in my wardrobe if I want to have a capsule wardrobe”?

“How many items do you think I should own for my capsule wardrobe”?

These are just some of the questions I get asked from my clients and followers on the topic of a capsule wardrobe.

So, for this summer season I have documented some of the key items that I think are important to have in your summer wardrobe – to help make getting dressed easy, fun and effortless.

* Disclaimer – this is a long blog post so if you want to skip straight to the list just scroll all the way down and sign up 😉

Before I get into the list there are a few very important points that I need to highlight.

  1. There is no one-size-fits-all list when it comes to building a capsule wardrobe, For example, an artist will have a VERY different capsule wardrobe to an attorney!
  2. We all have unique body shapes. A maxi dress may look amazing on one woman and awful on another – due to their different body shape. So it’s about tailoring the suggestions on the list, to make them work for you.
  3. Most of the items I list are figure shape dependent. For example, a jumpsuit – there are multiple versions of these, you need to find the one that suits your shape i.e. if you’re very straight and have no waist, then you don’t want a jumpsuit that wraps or has a seam into the waist, you’d rather look for an empire line or dropped waist style.

You might not like something I have listed, for no other reason than that you flat out don’t like it, and that’s cool.

So, with the above points in mind I have generated a list that is geared towards women who are 30+ and who are not required to wear corporate attire from Monday – Friday. If you work in a corporate environment you will probably still find this list useful as it will pertain to your weekend wardrobe, and there will very likely be some crossover between the two environments.

If you have any questions or need help deciding which style of a particular item might suit you, please feel free to comment below. I can also offer a one-on-one virtual consultation to help you figure out what works for you especially, so drop me an email if you think you’d like that.

SO in a nutshell – this list is something that is meant to help you. A lot of people feel that their wardrobe doesn’t work, when in actual fact they just need to replace a few gaps and then the whole thing comes together. I really don’t like the messaging that is splashed across women’s magazines like “the jacket you NEED to own this season” and the like, so please don’t interpret this list as something like that – it is really just something to inspire you and to help you.

Also, if there is something that you find to be a summer essential please share it with me!

P.S. I haven’t included beachwear, blog post on that to come 😉

To get the list AND discount Promo Codes to purchase some of these items, all you need to do is signup below and I’ll mail you everything. Simple!
*Please be sure to check your SPAM Folder… sometimes these things do get blocked.

For this post I’m sharing some basic steps for you to follow, to tackle the job of spring cleaning your wardrobe. See it as a how to declutter process, and everyone wants to do that, right?

We’re through the first day of spring, so what better time is there to do this!

Here you go:

  1. Take out all the clothes in your wardrobe – in sections e.g. tops. Follow the below steps, then move onto the next section.
  1. Put back those items that you LOVE
  1. Sort through the remainder and put the items you definitely dislike into a pile – ready to be donated or perhaps thrown away
  1. With the remainder of the pile, ask yourself these questions:
  • Do I feel good when I wear this item? Does it make me feel confident?
  • When last did I actually wear this item? Can I envisage myself wearing it again?
  • Does this item fit me properly? Is it flattering on my body?
  • Is this item comfortable, or do I want to take it off halfway through the day?
  1. If you answered NO to any of the above questions, it’s time to let go of them. If you still can’t do this, put them into a bag or box, out of the way. Then, if you haven’t thought about any of the items in the box for 6 months, it’s safe to say you can let go of them.
  1. Start with the next section of clothing e.g. pants and follow the same process
  1. Once you’re done, spend time organizing your wardrobe in ways that work for you!

I hope those steps help you, let me know if you get going with your wardrobe and how the process felt for you.

* one other tip, take a ‘maybe’ item and force yourself to wear it, then see how you feel that day when you have it on – if you’re not feeling good wearing it then you know that it’s ok to let it go!
